Panthera tigris
We currently hold 1 of the 6 remaining subspecies of tiger at Port Lympne. The Amur (or Siberian) tiger is the largest cat in the world with males averaging 260 kg. These are true snow tigers whose habitat is below freezing for several months a year. Amur tigers have been known to kill and eat bears, although typically they hunt boar and deer.
All tiger populations are endangered, some critically. There are probably fewer than 4000 wild tigers left on the planet.
