IUCN STATUS: Vulnerable
Prionailurus viverrinus
Fishing cat populations are scattered across southern and southeast Asia. They are listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Fishing cats predominately prey on fish. They either scoop fish out of the water or dive in fully submerged to catch them. Although, unlike previously thought, the membrane between their toes is no different in size to wild or domesticated cats. They are good swimmers, but will also prey on frogs, snakes, birds, small mammals and have been known to scavenge off larger carcasses.
