Brock is back
With Operation Brock reinstated on the M20 for the summer, here's everything you need to know about the traffic management system and how to plan your journey to Port Lympne Reserve.
What is Operation Brock?
Operation Brock is a contraflow system between J8 (for Leeds) and J9 (for Ashford) of the M20, designed to keep Kent moving in the event of travel disruption at the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel.
Lorries heading for mainland Europe can be queued on the coastbound carriageway while all other traffic can continue in both directions with a 50mph speed limit in place. Please follow the signs and ensure you are in the correct lane to enter the contraflow.
In the event of heavy disruption, a red alert will be issued and the M20 will be closed with a signed diversion in place.
When is Operation Brock active?
Operation Brock will be active throughout July and August 2020. We advise that you check the status of Operation Brock before travelling.
How will Operation Brock affect your journey?
If your journey to Port Lympne would normally include the section of the M20 between J8 and J9 please allow extra time to pass through the contraflow with the 50mph speed limit in place. You may also want to pop some extra snacks and drinks (and any medication you need to take regularly) in the car if you're travelling on days where the traffic level is expected to be heavy.
