Camelus Ferus
These are the largest living camels and they can weigh up to 1000kg! They are able to adapt to wide range of environments and are capable of eating virtually anything.
These camels are migratory and their habitat ranges from rocky mountains to flat arid deserts. They are capable of surviving in extreme conditions and their distribution is linked to the availability of water.
Want to know more?
Bactrian camels have two humps, which are composed of fat – not water. They can go without water for months at a time, but when water is available they may drink up to 57 litres at once!
Their long eyelashes, along with their sealable nostrils help to keep out dust caused by sandstorms.
Come and meet the family!
We are home to three Bactrian camels, two females and a male, and you can spot them on the Asian Experience.
