Syncerus caffer nanus
Forest Buffalo are bright red in colour, but this darkens with age, especially in the males, they have much shorter horns than the Savannah Buffalo growing no more than 40cm long on both the male and females. They typically live between 18-20 years in the wild but up to 29 years in captivity. The forest buffalo live in mixed herds of around 8-20 animals where they spend up to 18 hours a day foraging for food.
